We have carefully reviewed the Covid-19 positivity rate in the general community and state, hospitalizations in our community and Covid-19 cases in local nursing facilities which are all headed in the wrong direction. The positivity rate in Delaware County is now 6.1% which is considered widespread. The positivity rate in the surrounding counties is higher than Delaware County and the state is currently at 7.8%. In addition, hospitalizations have increased and ½ of the state’s nursing homes are now experiencing Covid-19 cases. As you know, if there is one case of Covid-19 on the skilled unit ALL visits would cease. The residents would also then be quarantined to their rooms.

Keeping all of the above in mind we have made the determination that we need to return to outside visits. We will continue to permit visits for our residents on hospice services and will allow Wesley spouses to visit on the unit. We review the data each week and if things start improving we will return to the inside visits. Please give the nursing staff a call when you plan to visit so they have your family member ready to go outside. Unfortunately, at this time if there is inclement weather we ask that you reschedule your visit.

We understand this is difficult situation. The sadness and frustration you must feel. We are feeling the same way.  We do not make these decisions lightly. Our goal is to remain free from Covid-19 cases so we can continue with visitation in some fashion as well as indoor activities and meals with their friends.  The majority of the families have been very kind to the staff, however, there have been some exceptions. Please understand that the staff members on the unit are not responsible for making the rules so please refrain from taking your frustration out on them. If you have any questions or concerns you may contact me to discuss them.

Thank-you in advance for your cooperation! Hopefully this set back will be short lived.
