Dear Upper Moreland Residents and Family Members,

As this is my first update, I’d like to start by introducing myself.  My name is Dan Frost and I am the new Executive Director for Wesley Enhanced Living Upper Moreland and Wesley Enhanced Living Burholme. 

I live in Allentown, Pennsylvania with my wife Mary, of 31 years (October 22, 1988), and two sons, Corey 26 and Collin 20. Mary is an elementary school Nurse, Corey finished his MBA in Finance and is working for an investment firm and Collin is attending Moravian College pursuing a degree in law and society and playing football. I am a native of Herkimer, New York and have made my home in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania for the past thirty-two years.

I am licensed as a Pennsylvania Nursing Home Administrator, a Lifetime Certified Assisted Living Administrator, Pennsylvania Personal Care Home Administrator, and Pennsylvania Assisted Living Administrator.

I have worked in the field of Long-Term Care Administration and Senior Housing since 1985. I have worked as Vice President of Operations, Vice President of Policies, Procedures, and Safety, Operations Specialist, Executive Director and Administrator of a CCRC, Administrator in Skilled Nursing Facilities, Executive Director in Personal Care and Assisted Living communities. I assisted with the development and opening of a new Skilled Nursing/Assisted Living Community, three Retirement and 5 Assisted Living Communities in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania.

I have an Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology from the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, Bachelor Degree in Health Services Management from the State University of New York at Utica/Rome, MBA from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and Doctorate of Management in Organizational Leadership from University of Phoenix.

I am elated to join Wesley Enhanced Living as the Executive Director at Burholme and Upper Moreland campuses. I look forward to meeting you and enhancing the lives of our residents.

Department of Human Services Mandate:

As stated in the update dated July 31st, the Department of Human Services (DHS), which regulates Personal Care, has mandated that all residents residing in Personal Care, which accounts for approximately 26 people here at Upper Moreland, have to have a baseline COVID 19 test.  The same is true of all our staff.  Residents who live in Independent Living are not required to be tested at this time. 

In conjunction with this mandate, we will be offering on-site testing of our personal care residents and our entire staff on Friday, August 28th.  The test consists of a nasal swab which is sent out to a lab and the results are returned within 10-14 days.   If a resident or staff member tests positive, DHS has advised that we must go back to isolation, in room meal service, etc.  We are hopeful that we will continue to have no cases at our community.  If all tests are negative, we will move forward with plans to open our doors to family members of our Personal Care residents.  We are not able to accommodate indoor visits by pets at this time due to safety concerns.   Outdoor visits with pets will be an option once we establish a good location as well as some rules to be adhered to.    

We continue to stress the importance and necessity of wearing masks on our campus as well as practicing hand washing/sanitizing and social distancing.   We also ask that you continue to follow these protocols at our community or when you take our residents off-site.    This is for both your protection and the protection of our residents and staff.    

Community Access:

I am working with Bob Snyder, Facility Operations Director on a plan to open the Orangemans Road entrance/exit and the campus roads for traffic. We plan to open the roads and place signs reminding vendors and visitors to check in at the front entrance.

I am also currently working with the management team to develop a plan that will allow us to accommodate side door and garage entrance by our residents.  This will require a way for us to properly screen those residents before entering the building.  In the meantime, we ask that you continue to use the front entrance for entering and exiting the building.  For the time being everyone must be checked in at the front entrance. 

Dining:

I would like to encourage our residents to use the dining room for dining. We have opened the ability to have four individuals at a table. As of August 3rd The Cornerstone has been open for all IL residents to make reservations, regardless of their floor.  Reservation times are 4pm, 5pm, and 6pm.  The dining room is at 25% capacity so we can accommodate about 16 residents at a seating. I look forward to seeing you enjoy the dining room.

Covid Reminders:

  1. All visitors must wear masks at all times on campus.
  2. Visitors must enter and exit at the Main Entrance to be screened and sanitize before and after visiting.
  3. No more than 2 visitors at a time in an apartment.
  4. No pets are currently permitted into the main building for visiting.
  5. Visits must take place in the residents’ private apartments; no visiting in common areas.
  6. Please remind your visitors that there should only be 2 people in the elevator at a time in order to allow for Social Distancing.
  7. Visitors are not permitted in dining venues nor at the Bistro.
  8. Visitors are requested to limit the time spent on campus and there are no overnight guests permitted in the main building at this time.
  9. Those who have visited or reside in quarantined states must quarantine for 14 days prior to visiting our communities.  The updated list of quarantined states can be found at:  https://health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Travelers.aspx

For residents residing in Personal Care, please have your family call the front desk to schedule a Compassionate Care visit or window visit until we complete COVID 19 testing and we are cleared for visitors by the Department of Human Services.

For Independent Living Residents, please remind your visitors to abide by our protocols as we have them in place to keep you, your friends and neighbors, and our staff safe.
