We will be hosting our second vaccine clinic in the Stapeley Hall Rec Room on Sunday, February 28th.  Specific instructions are included in the following pages. Please dress appropriately; a short sleeve shirt is best so that the pharmacist can easily access your arm. Plan on which arm you wish to receive the vaccine.  If you choose to wear a sweater or long sleeve clothing, please be sure it has buttons or a zipper and can easily be removed.  We also suggest notifying your doctor that you will be receiving the vaccine so they are aware in the event you experience side effects. Additional information about side effects is included in the following pages.

Note all current protocols on community will continue until the majority of the community is fully vaccinated.  We are anticipating a calm, well organized vaccination clinic.  Please be patient and follow the provided instructions.  This is yet another step in the right direction!  We hope you all can rest a little easier tonight.

WEL Stapeley Vaccination Clinic Directions

Sunday February 28th, 2021 11:00am to 5:00pm

Stapeley Hall Rec Room

1)     Vaccinations will be given to Healthcare Residents at their bedside. They will be the first to receive the vaccination, starting at 11:00am

2)     WEL Stapeley employees will then receive their vaccination.   This will be done ion the Rec room as before.

3)     Personal Care staff will accompany the Team providing the vaccine to the apartments for Personal Care residents. We plan to do Bridges first then the rest of PC. 

4)     If the Team that arrives for this clinic is as accommodating as the first Team (we do not know if any of this Team will have been here before), we will visit each Resident in their apartment to provide the vaccine.  A receptionist will call Independent  Residents when we have a time frame to being vaccinating IL. 

5)  Some mild discomfort, fever, chills, fatigue and headache can be expected post vaccination.  If you feel you are having a more severe reaction, please use your pendant to notify the Receptionist.

What to Expect after Getting a COVID-19 Vaccine

COVID-19 vaccination will help protect you from getting COVID-19. You may have some side effects, which are normal signs that your body is building protection. These side effects may affect your ability to do daily activities, but they should go away in a few days.

Common side effects

  • Pain and/or swelling on the arm where you got the shot
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Tiredness
  • Headache

Helpful tips

If you have pain or discomfort, talk to your doctor about taking an over-the-counter medicine, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

To reduce pain and discomfort where you got the shot:

  • Apply a clean, cool, wet washcloth over the area.
  • Use or exercise your arm.

To reduce discomfort from fever:

  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Dress lightly.

When to call the doctor

In most cases, discomfort from fever or pain is normal. Contact your doctor or healthcare provider:

  • If the redness or tenderness where you got the shot increases after 24 hours
  • If your side effects are worrying you or do not seem to be going away after a few days

Remember

  • Side effects may feel like flu and even affect your ability to do daily activities, but they should go away in a few days.
  • The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine requires 2 shots in order for it to work. Get the second shot even if you have side effects after the first shot, unless a vaccination provider or your doctor tells you not to get a second shot.
  • It takes time for your body to build protection after any vaccination. COVID-19 vaccines that require 2 shots may not protect you until a week or two after your second shot.
  • Please continue to wear a mask, social distance and wash your hands
