Dear Residents, Families and Staff,

Vaccine Clinic Update

I am writing with an update on our CVS COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic this weekend.

CVS has consolidated our clinic into 1 day, Saturday January 30th 11am – 5pm.

Because 2 clinic days merged into one clinic day, our plan is to vaccinate the entire campus on Saturday January 30th; this includes all residents and all staff who require the first round of vaccination.  It will be a very busy and exciting day!

Members of the leadership team and our wonderful staff will be on site to facilitate a smooth running clinic.  It is important that residents follow the guidance provided on the reverse side of this letter so that we can efficiently vaccinate everyone on Saturday.   I am very appreciative of the CVS team who will be on site on the 30th.  These pharmacists and technicians are working tirelessly, some 7 days a week, to bring the vaccine to our communities.

In order to be vaccinated on Saturday January 30th, you will need to complete a consent form (we will have them available at the clinic if you did not complete and return in advance) and you will need to bring your most recent Medicare and insurance cards with you. You also must be available to receive the 2nd dose on Saturday February 20, 2021.  If you are declining the vaccine please notify Alison Schneck at 267-895-1185.

We will be hosting the Clinic in Heritage Hall.  Specific instructions are included in the following pages. Please dress appropriately; a short sleeve shirt is best so that the pharmacist can easily access your arm. Plan on which arm you wish to receive the vaccine.  If you choose to wear a sweater or long sleeve clothing, please be sure it has buttons or a zipper and can easily be removed.  We also suggest notifying your doctor that you will be receiving the vaccine so they are aware in the event you experience side effects. Additional information about side effects is included in the following pages.

For residents currently off campus, you will be contacted by a member of our team confirming a time slot later in the afternoon on January 30th for your vaccine. If you are not contacted by noon on Friday, please contact the receptionist at 215-345-4300.

Note all current protocols on campus will continue until the majority of the campus is fully vaccinated.  New information will come out after February 20th. We are anticipating a calm, well organized vaccination clinic.  Please be patient and follow the provided instructions.  This is yet another step in the right direction!  We hope you all can rest a little easier tonight.

Warmly,

Maureen & the WEL Doylestown Team

What to Expect after Getting a COVID-19 Vaccine

Updated Jan. 11, 2021 www.cdc.org

COVID-19 vaccination will help protect you from getting COVID-19. You may have some side effects, which are normal signs that your body is building protection. These side effects may affect your ability to do daily activities, but they should go away in a few days.

Common side effects

  • Pain and/or swelling on the arm where you got the shot
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Tiredness
  • Headache

Helpful tips

If you have pain or discomfort, talk to your doctor about taking an over-the-counter medicine, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

To reduce pain and discomfort where you got the shot:

  • Apply a clean, cool, wet washcloth over the area.
  • Use or exercise your arm.

To reduce discomfort from fever:

  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Dress lightly.

When to call the doctor

In most cases, discomfort from fever or pain is normal. Contact your doctor or healthcare provider:

  • If the redness or tenderness where you got the shot increases after 24 hours
  • If your side effects are worrying you or do not seem to be going away after a few days

Remember

  • Side effects may feel like flu and even affect your ability to do daily activities, but they should go away in a few days.
  • With most COVID-19 vaccines, you will need 2 shots in order for them to work. Get the second shot even if you have side effects after the first shot, unless a vaccination provider or your doctor tells you not to get a second shot.
  • It takes time for your body to build protection after any vaccination. COVID-19 vaccines that require 2 shots may not protect you until a week or two after your second shot.
  • Please continue to wear a mask, social distance and wash your hands
