Dear Residents, Families and Staff,

I am thrilled to write this letter sharing lots of good news. 

Vaccination Information

As you know our residents residing in Skilled Nursing and our Doylestown staff had the opportunity to be vaccinated on December 30, 2020.  A total of 42 residents and 96 staff were vaccinated. They will receive their booster on Wednesday January 20, 2021 between 10am and 4pm. There were no serious side effects and only a handful of minor side effects such a headache, nausea/vomiting and fatigue. I am hopeful additional people can be vaccinated that day but I do not have confirmation at this time.

I am happy to share that we have confirmed dates for our vaccination clinic for our Personal Care residents which are Saturday January 30th and Sunday January 31st from 11am to 5pm.  We will need consent forms signed and the most updated insurance cards to be available.  I know that the Personal Care team has already been working with the residents and families and has this process very organized. 

Governor Wolf’s plan (found on his website) identifies that we are currently in Phase 1a which includes vaccination of residents in skilled nursing, personal care and healthcare employees.  We are hopeful to have information for our residents in Independent Living in the very near future.  Residents can turn in consent forms to the front desk and are asked to have their most up to date insurance card on hand in the event we are able to offer vaccination with little notice.

Personal Care

Our residents residing in Personal Care are now out of quarantine, which began back on November 18th.  This was a long time for them to be in their apartments. We acknowledge and appreciate the residents and their families for their patience and understanding as we followed the guidance of the Department of Human Services, the Department of Health and the CDC related to COVID 19 outbreaks. Each time a new case was identified in Personal Care we needed to reset the quarantine clock for another 14 days.  There are no cases in Personal Care currently and since November 18th we had a total of 7 cases in this area. We identified no transfer of cases from resident to staff or from staff to resident.   Many kudos to Martine Minninger and the Personal Care team for their careful use of PPE and for their thorough and compassionate care of the residents.  It was great to see our Personal Care residents in the dining room again last night! Lots of smiling faces! 

We are sad to share that Martine is leaving WEL Doylestown after 7 years of dedicated service as she transitions to become an Executive Director of another community closer to her home.  We wish Martine well in her new endeavor and we know she will be very successful! 

Skilled Nursing

Residents were happy to receive their first dose of the COVID 19 vaccine.  Some residents were seen on the news and some were in the newspaper.  It was an exciting day. We continue to have no COVID cases in this area. Residents are enjoying lunch and dinner in the dining room and small group activities daily.  If you would like to schedule a face time visit, please reach out to our receptionist at 215-345-4300.

Independent Living

The Enhanced Living Team and the Dining Team is working hard to slowly return our campus to “normal”.  The Bistro opens for lunch Monday thru Friday on Monday January 18th.  We will have a plan for the Heritage Dining Room soon.  The Enhanced Living Team announced this week that the gym is now open 24/7 but we are asking for no more than 3 residents at a time with infection control protocols in place. The pool is also available by appointment.  Small group activities are happening, as is Thursday night entertainment.  Please refer to your calendar for specifics. 

The Bucks County positivity rate is 14.4%, so it is moving in the right direction.  We continue with no visitors on campus but you can schedule the conference room for a visit through the receptionist at 215-345-4300.  A 14 day quarantine is still in effect for residents choosing to gather socially with family or friends or for residents who return from in-patient hospitalization.  For residents returning from the ER we are asking that if you have symptoms of COVID-19 that you notify the front desk and begin a self-quarantine for 10 days from the start of symptoms. Anyone who has symptoms of COVID-19, or has been exposed to COVID-19 and was in close contact, is asked to stay in their apartment, notify their family physician and notify our front desk.  We have a process for quarantine in place and we will help you through it! 

We continue to review our policies and protocols and will update them accordingly for the county positivity rate and our campus experience.  Since November, we have had 9 residents in Independent Living diagnosed with COVID-19 and 15 staff.  We currently have no new active COVID-19 cases on our campus for residents nor staff since. 

Human Resources

Some of our leaders, managers and staff have accepted new roles and challenges and have left WEL Doylestown. We have welcomed new team members including those listed on page 3.

We are also recruiting for an Administrator of Personal Care and Home Care along with other positions such as dining servers, nurse aides and nurses.  We are proud of our WEL Doylestown Campus and we know we will attract stellar team members to uphold our high standards and values.
